Whoops There Goes My Shirt by kojiro Whoops There Goes My Shirt by kojiro
30% anatomy practice, 30% tablet practice, 30% mapping Komi's scars... 10% fanservice. Not the kind of thing I normally do, but I didn't half need to practice drawing male torsos.

One of my characters from Darken. [link]
All photoshop, which I don't do very often for a good reason :|

YAY TO NO SHIRTS ON SMEXY DROWIE MEN!
That made my day. He's adorable. I wonder how he felt about that? If I attempted that with one of my boys pretty sure he'd be unimpressed with me.

Ahh, and the best part is that we don't know if his expression is related to shirtloss or whatever those knives are for...

. . . I don't think anyone would mind if he lost his shirt more often, except maybe the other guys around since he'd then get all the attention from the females . . . like me.

And this is just the icing on the (very delicious, I might add) cake.

I'm surprised! -raises eyebrows-

Well. I m glad to be the first to use the description, as I'm proud to be the first to do anything. xP

-quietly steals Komiyan off into my lair-

If I could draw humanoids at all, you would be being bombarded with fanart so very much right now...

Ahh humans aren't easy, but neither are animals! They're all big complicated piles of muscle and bones, if you can learn one you can totally learn the other, tis but practice :)

Been trying that, right now I'm working on getting the faces, hands, and feet right... Those are supposed to be the hardest parts of the human body to draw, yes? I figure that if I manage to get those right, I can move right along to the rest of the body without much trouble.

Although I admit I've done copouts on ears. Looots of long hair in my face practice. xD

Hands are the devil, I swear. I like this blog entry for hand references, and showing how much character you can get into just a pair of hands- [link]

Ears are easy! Just don't get caught up in the detail, the outline and then one line inside is all you need.

It looks like he's dodging something. Probably the same something that caused his shirt to be lost XD.
I love the webcomic! Komiyan is my favorite character!
I was wondering, are the tattoos on his face just really really faint or did you get rid of them? I noticed that around the same time he got all of those scars I couldn't see the tattoo(s) he had on his face.

It was a Shirtripper Monster, level 5!

The marks on his face weren't tattoos to start with, they were a henna type substance that he hasn't bothered with for a while so they've gone.

This is the excuse I am using, you see, because his face would be waaaay too crowded with the glasses, the scar AND the markings ;) I don't think I'm contradicting myself TOO hard though!

Imagine what would have happened if it was a higher level Shirtripper Monster!

Alrighty, so it isn't really tattoos. I was just wondering since they hadn't appeared in a while. With the marks and the scars, he would indeed have it too crowded. Since nothing was said straight out in the comic about his face tattoos (just the ones on his hands)I don't think you're contradicting yourself at all.

Oh gosh, then it would have ripped all shirts in a 20 mile radius! It would be like the sexiest terrorism!

Glad I can get away with the tattoo thing, hehe, that's what not planning far enough ahead will get you..

Shirts spontaneously combust sometimes, you know. It's quite an effective distraction during battle.

He's got some battle scars now, whoo! :D I can't help but wonder how the rest of the team will react to seeing his scars. Everyone else got hurt or pummeled, and he finally had his turn.

I swear I'll do some fanart of him....after I finish my six page essay. *facepalm*

I adore the shading on this one. That, and his expression. He looks like he wishes he had his shirt back.

Hmmm...I'm convinced it's a fantasy world rule that men can lose their shirts randomly and yet their pants are perfectly fine....and of course those men are always chistled or "sexy" to some degree....

Scar mapping was always a pain for me because you have to always remember where each one is whenever your character is shirtless

Tons of scars tends to indicate one of two things:
*either the person fights alot and the occasional scar here and there adds up
Or
*that person really need to wear more armor, or at least dodge more
not sure which it would be with Komiyan...

He just got torn up quite badly in the last chapter of the comic, sadly these thigns don't heal so well :(

He's unlikely to be shirtless again, I just need to learn how chests go. And well, it was fun too.

Also: only Komiyan could accidentally loose his shirt. >_> :P

Question: Does the fact that you have to map out scars bother you on some level? I mean... does it ever make you feel a little morbid?
(I'm totally not trying to be offensive or anything. I usually have to sit down and map out scars for my chars as well, and it always makes me feel a little awkward/morbid.)

Actually.. No, it doesn't bother me at all. I wonder if it should..

But really, he's fictional, at the end of the day. I felt more awkward about the shirtlessness, not sure what that says about me :)

XD I stopped being bothered by shirtlessness when I discovered it was easier to draw figures/anatomy without some cloth in the way

(and fictional characters have feelings too; Mine all hate me ;_;)

What's kinda amusing too, is this isn't me brown nosing or anything but you've actually influenced my own drawing style. Not so much in the past, but the more I look at my art, the newer pieces are starting to look like the way you do it. ^^;;
